That's It, You're Pretty? Proverbs 31:30

That's It, You're Pretty?

Proverbs 31:20 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

No one wants to look ugly, but really? Make-up, fancy hairstyles, jewelry, they don't cause you to be beautiful. In fact, it isn't even you. Beauty comes by working on your inner self. That is what God calls holy women to do. A gentle and quiet spirit is of great worth in God's site. ~Dad

Be Their Voice, Proverbs 31:8-9

Be Their Voice

Proverbs 31:8-9 Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.

As Christians, we are called to speak up for those who have no voice. The widow, the orphan, the needy... Jesus calls you to lift your hands and help.  ~Dad

Not For You, Proverbs 31:4

Not For You

Proverbs 31:4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel - not for kings to drink wine, not for rulers to crave beer,

I know, it is surprising, but this is for women as well... Daughters, do not drink wine or other alcohol. It is a detriment to your character and has led many into sin. You will be co-rulers with Christ some day. Act like the princess he calls you to be today. ~Dad

Cover Your Heart, Proverbs 30:32

Cover Your Heart

Proverbs 30:32 If you have played the fool and exalted yourself, or if you have planned evil, clap you hand over your mouth.

Many say foolish things. Cover your mouth before you do so for you will be ashamed and have to do it afterwards, but it is too late. The damage has been done.

The same goes for the things you do. You may be ashamed afterwards and try to cover your evil, but it is too late. The damage has been done. It would have been better if you had allowed the blood of Christ to cover your heart beforehand, so you had never done it in the first place. ~Dad

Circling Vultures, Proverbs 30:17

Circling vultures

Proverbs 30:17 The eye that mocks a father, that scorns obedience to a mother, will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley, will be eaten by vultures.

Ever see vultures circling overhead? Be wary if you do not honor you father and mother. ~Dad

Two Sins To Flee, Proverbs 30:7-9

Two Sind To Flee

Proverbs 30:7-9 "Two things I ask of you, O Lord; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise I may disown you and say, 'who is the Lord?' Or I may become poor and steal and dishonor the name of my God."

Falsehoods and Finances, two areas that catch many people seeking to serve God. The first will cause mistrust and the second may draw your focus away from him. Both have the potential to keep you from heaven (Rev 21:8, Mat 19:24). Flee these evil desires and cling to the heart of God. ~Dad

A Meek Spirit, Proverbs 29:23

A Meek Spirit

Proverbs 29:23 A man's pride brings him low, but a man of lowly spirit gains honor.

Jesus said that the meek shall inherit the earth. That statement seems backwards to most people; don't the strongest people always win?  They may win some battles, but honor and most importantly the future belongs to those who are lowly in spirit. Stay calm and humble. ~Dad

Impart Wisdom, Proverbs 29:15

Impart Wisdom

Proverbs 29:15 The rod of correction imparts wisdom, but a child left to himself disgraces his mother.

A wise mother teaches wisdom in many different ways; notes, wall hangings, words, and... with a paddle. Be a wise mother. ~Dad

Take Control, Proverbs 29:11

Take Control

Proverbs 29:11 A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.

May your husband be wise, for you certainly do not want to receive the fury of his foolishness. And, live in such a way that encourages him to be in control. Speak and act in ways that don't stir the pot. ~Dad

Flattery Destroys, Proverbs 28:23

Flattery Destroys

Proverbs 28:23 He who rebukes a man will in the end gain more favor than he who has a flattering tongue.

Be truthful. If someone wants to know how something turned out... they will not get any better by you telling them it's looks great or You sounded terrific. In love, tell them the truth, so they can improve. If you desire their best, their success, honesty will build them up. ~Dad

~If you are going to be cruel, just keep your mouth shut.

Confess Your Sins, Proverbs 28:13

Confess Your Sins

Proverbs 28:13 He who conceals his sin does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

The Christian doesn't want to sin, but few are those who want to confess to others when they do. James says to confess our sins one to another... that used to be done in church and people found victory. That happened in our church this past Sunday,  A man stood up and asked for prayer for victory over a desire for nicotine... WOW! That is when you begin to have victory!

When you sin and are convicted for doing wrong, first take it to the Lord. Confess to him your willingness to disobey him and that you were wrong and desire to be clean and do right. Then, if necessary because you sinned against someone else, tell them about your wrongdoing, In doing so you will find mercy and forgiveness. If you fail to tell someone especially God, you will not get rid of your sin and you will perish in them, with eternal consequences! ~Dad

~Most people never do this... if you find yourself failing in life, life never seems to go right, everything seems to turn out wrong... check to see if you are hiding sins. If so... confess them, renounce them, and Jesus will free you.

~One more thing... if you are caught in a sinful habit or know someone who is... victory begins with confession - to God of course, but more so by confiding in a loyal friend and if the sin runs too deep you may need to go before the church.

Love God's Law, Proverbs 28:9

Love God's Law

Proverbs 28:9 If anyone turns a deaf ear to the law, even his prayers are detestable.

Much is said today about Christians not needing to follow the Mosaic Law. Jesus says that all you need to do is love him and love others. Love, that what Christianity is about, they say. This is a trick of the devil. The Beetles coined the term... All You Need is Love (dem de da de da, just made that up, not quite sure how it goes) in their song of the mid 60's and now the church is preaching it. I just heard that from one of the people in my Sunday school class this past Sunday. And you will hear it everywhere you go... Can't we all just get along, That's another theme of the 60's too and put into a song by Jacob Whitesides in 2017.

The problem isn't having a desire for peace and love. It is how we go about attaining it. We need the laws from the Old Testament (and the New) to show us what it means to love. Jesus said that is what the Law and the Prophets were for. When you desire to live God's way, and seek him out in the Scriptures, your prayers become effective, because you will know what to pray for how to pray to receive it.  Love God's law, then you will find the peace you seek and pray for. ~Dad

The Real You, Proverbs 27:19

The Real You

Proverbs 27:19 As water reflects a face, so a man's heart reflects the man.

Who are you really? It's what is in your heart. You can fool people with what you say and how you act in certain settings, but that may not be you. You are spirit. Oh, you have a body, and it may be pretty or even a little homely, maybe down right ugly... but that isn't you. Down in your heart and soul is the real you. Has the blood of Christ cleansed your soul? Does that affect the you that is visible to others? It does. The real you always comes out. Jesus says that out of the heart the mouth speaks. Keep your heart pure and your life will be as well. ~Dad

Sharper or More Dull, Proverbs 27:17

Sharper Or More Dull

Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

What kind of friends do you have? Do you complement one another, helping each other grow spiritually strong? Or, do you dull each other's sensitivity to sin making you spiritually weak? Spend time with people who help you develop Christian character. ~Dad

Lord Willing, Proverbs 27:1

Lord Willing

Proverbs 27:1 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.

When I grew up, the Bible was taken more literal. We wanted to do as it said, so when James said you shouldn't say tomorrow we will do this or that, for it is boasting to do so. Rather, we are to say if the Lord wills we will accomplish it. That's why I always heard people say something like well, I'll see you tomorrow, Lord willing. We'll be planting corn next week, Lord willing. Even now, when I head home from work, I text your mother and say, see you soon, LW. Do not be haughty, thinking that your plans will be carried out. Recognize that the Lord is in charge, and if he so wills it, you will complete what you have set out to do. ~Dad

Interesting adaption from Grandpa... we'll see you then, Lord willing, body and soul holding together, and the creek doesn't rise.

Gossip Is Destructive, Proverbs 26:22

Gossip Is Destructive

Proverbs 26:22 The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to a man's inmost parts.

It's not that gossip is good like dessert. No, it is that the words spoken are effective and that is not good, for it destroys the one spoken about. People devour gossip and cannot get enough and always want more. This tears at the fabric of relationships. ~Dad

Mind Your Own Business, Proverbs 26:17

Mind Your Own Business

Proverbs 26:17 Like one who seizes a dog by the ears is a passer-by who meddles in a quarrel not his own.

Don't add your two cents to an argument you have nothing to do with. All you will do is create more havoc. Mind your own business and walk on by. ~Dad

Honor Those Deserving Honor, Proverbs 26:8

Honor those Deserving Honor

Proverbs 26:8 Like tying a stone in a sling is the giving of honor to a fool.

Don't give a trophy to everyone. It's pointless. It will not build character nor will it help them improve. Honor is for those who excel in their efforts and will help other strive for success. ~Dad

Take Care Of The Enemy, PRoverbs 25:21

Take Care Of The Enemy

Proverbs 25:21 If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.

Jesus calls us to love our enemy. You aren't to be their enemy, you are to care for them. Sound odd? Certainly! But, the way of Jesus is different than the world. You are different, so love those that persecute you by looking out for their best. ~Dad

Wait Your Turn, Proverbs 25:6-7

Wait Your Turn

Proverbs 25:6-7 Do not exalt yourself in the kings presence, and do not claim a place among great men; it is better for him to say to you, "Come up here,"  than for him to humiliate you before a nobleman.

You have seen people that always want to be in the lime-light. They want to be recognized for everything they do. They rub noses with the powerful to get credited for a job well done. The Scriptures say to let another honor you. You are not to "blow your own horn". Do your job well and if no one notices, that's fine for the one that counts sees all you do and will reward you for diligently seeking him. ~Dad

But Why, Proverbs 25:2

But Why

Proverbs 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings.

The way to salvation is clear and open, but there are times along the way in which we cannot see where the next step lands, not to speak of where it leads down the road. God doesn't make everything clear, for our sake that is good. We cannot handle a full understanding of what is to come. It is okay to ask why, but it may be a long time until you get the answer. What he asks of you is to trust him. Know that, as you love and serve him with all your heart, he will take care of you and your future. ~Dad

Plant Now Reap Later, Proverbs 24:27

Plant Now, Reap Later

Proverbs 24:27 Finish your outdoor work and get your fields ready; after that build your house.

It is so important to get your priorities straight. If you spend all your money as it comes in to supply you with the things you now need, you will never have money for later. Save and look ahead. The results will be plentiful and you will reap the rewards of your efforts. ~Dad

Bless Your Enemy, Proverbs 24:17-18

Bless Your Enemy

Proverbs 24:17-18 Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when he stumbles, do not let your heart rejoice, or the Lord will see and will disapprove and turn his wrath away from him.

Vengeance is mine says the Lord... It is mine to repay. God will avenge you and punish evil doers. He says that it is his job. Jesus says it is our job to love them. And when he does rebuke evil, we are to move in and show his love. God wants all to repent and come to the knowledge of him. And if we show love to our enemy in the midst of their torment, they just might turn to him. Wouldn't it be great to have your enemy as your friend? ~Dad

House Full Of Riches, Proverbs 24:3-4

House Full Of Riches

Proverbs 24:3-4 By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge it is fill with rare and beautiful treasures.

The wise man built his house upon a rock. So do wise women! Ladies, fill your home with the spiritual riches of Christ. Hang Scripture verses on your walls. Have pillows and throws with wise and uplifting sayings. Fill you place with love and joy and peace. Establish a holy home in which to raise your family. ~Dad

Do Not Mimic Sins, Proverbs 23:30-31

Do Not Mimic Sins

Proverbs 23:30-31 ...Those who linger over wine,, who go to sample bowls of mixed wine. Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly.

The title of this post doesn't fit the verses, but it does spark in me a warning. I never wanted to drink nor feel the buzz that it gives. I never wanted anyone to think I have or was. With all of the destruction alcohol has brought on (statistics show $250 billion were spent in the US because of alcohol abuse & 88,000 die annually from alcohol related issues and more - Alcohol Facts and Statiscs), certainly Christians should be wary of drinking.

As with all sins, I purpose not only to do them, but I also do not want to mimic them. Therefor I choose not to drink from bottles or from drinkware that are specifically designed for alcohol. I choose not to buy drinks which are made to look or taste like alcohol as in non-alcoholic beer or sparkling cider or grape juice. I "do not want to give Satan a foothold" as the Scriptures says.

My conviction on this may seem burdensome and to some, even silly to others, but I want to please the Lord and not get caught up like what is happening in the church today where we mimic everything the world does. I used to think it was to win the world, but time has proven our efforts have allowed the world to win us over. My prayer is for my daughters not to get caught up in the sins of the world. Following my wisdom will aid you in the effort not to do so. ~Dad

Special Note: The wine industry is growing in leaps and bounds. "Christians" everywhere are involving themselves in free wine tasting events. Please stay far from them. It will suck you in.

Do Not Envy Sinners, Proverbs 23:17

Do Not Envy Sinners

Proverbs 23:17 Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the Lord.

It is difficult to understand why we struggle while the sinner seems to succeed. Living for Christ comes with great responsibility. There are times when it may seem like you are missing out on good times of life, but remember their end! Flee worldly things; skip the drinking and the dancing and the party lifestyle and the dirty talk. Instead cling to pure and holy things; care for sick and the helpless, lift the downtrodden, rejoice with the saints... in the end you will find that you are the one who has truly lived the good life! ~Dad

Talking Is Not Enough, Proverbs 23:14-15

Talkning Is Not Enough
\
Proverbs 23:14-15 Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish him with the rod, he will not die. Punish him with the rod and save his soul from death.

It is not enough to raise your children through reasoning.  It is not wrong to physically discipline. All children need paddled now and then. Some will need it more than others, but all will need it at some point. Do not do it if you are angry. Wait until you have calmed down or have your husband do it for you, even if at a later time. Do it in love, knowing that is it for their own good. It is not a punishment, rather it is a tool parents must utilize. I am sure you have seen children who were in need of it. Certainly, you will not want your child's soul to die. ~Dad

Bad Influences, Proverbs 22:24

Bad Influences

Proverbs 22:24 Do not make friends with a hot tempered man, do not associate with one easily angered.

Hang around godly friends, and you will become more like Christ, naturally. Chill with worldly friends, and you'll become like them, naturally. ~Dad

Way back in the 80's and newly married, I worked on a job with a man who had a weird, annoying laugh. Within a week, I had picked up on it, and the laugh became part of me. It did not take long for an annoyed wife to remove that part of me.

One more thing... You're probably thinking, Dad saying chill? Yeah, that's probably the first time I ever used the word "chill" in that context... Yeah, were just chillin... nah, I don't want to be that guy. I rarely even use the word "cool"... cause Fonzie was cool, and I never wanted to be like him either.

Train Your Children, Proverbs 22:6

Train Your Children

Proverbs 22:6 Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not turn from it.

Don't wait until your children grow up to train them. The longer you wait the harder it will become to teach them right from wrong. Start little disciplines soon after they are born. Instruct them, walk with them, and show them early how to live, and you will be surprised how simple parenting can be. ~Dad

"Kids will be kids," they say . I say, "Parents should be parents!"

Slow Down And Think, Proverbs 22:3

Slow Down And Think

Proverbs 22:3 A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.

Don't just tear into something headlong without thinking. Think first and plan what you are doing and when it is time to move, have at it. ~Dad

Be Prepared, Trust God, Proverbs 21:31

Be Prepared, Trust God

Proverbs 21:31 The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord.

In the Christian walk, you have the responsibility to do your part. It is not just love or even just faith in Jesus Christ which takes you to heaven. No, you must walk in obedience to the Word.

But, as much it is required of you to be obedient, you also need to keep in mind that is the Lord that enables you to walk and be successful in your battle against sin and self and Satan. If you take pride in obedience, you will fall. Be vigilant in living out your faith and ask God to enable you to walk with Christ. You can trust him to be there as you go into battle. ~Dad

Stick To It, Proverbs 21:16

Stick To It

Proverbs 21:16 A man who strays from the path of understanding comes to rest in the company of the dead.

It's true, the path of Christ is narrow. Many will not even find it, but you have. It will get rough and steep at times, but don't seek the easy road, for if you leave the way to walk with others on the easy wide road... you'll end up walking to your ill fated death. Stick to it, life is short and eternity is forever. ~Dad

Obedience Best, Proverbs 21:3

Obedience Best

Proverbs 21:3 To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.

Samuel told a similar exhortation to Saul when he took it upon himself to sacrifice to the Lord instead of waiting as he was told to do. You can life your arms and sway back and forth in misty praise, shout glory hallelujah, or sing the most moving hymn, but if you aren't following the commands of Christ you miss the mark. Obedience is the key to living the life Christ desires. Walk with him today. ~Dad

Dark Caverns, Proverbs 20:27

Dark Caverns

Proverbs 20:27 The lamp of the Lord searches the spirit of a man; it searches out his inmost being.

Do you keep sin in the dark crevaases of your soul, so no one else can see? Everyone may think you are miss goodie two shoes, but sin cannot be hidden from God. His lamp brings all into the light and he knows the condition of your heart even if you try to hide your secrets in the pericardial space of your heart; he knows. Let the Lord light your darkest caverns, because you may have hidden sins there that you forgot about. ~Dad

Feigned Belief, Proverbs 20:14

Feigned Belief

Proverbs 20:14 "It's no good, It's no good!" says the buyer; then he goes and boasts about his purchase.

I've seen this, someone finds something at the store that is damaged and goes to the clerk. He dickers with them and says how worthless it is now that it is damaged. He gets it for a ridiculously low price and then boast about his great buy and how he tricked the clerk into selling it... what a fool, doesn't he know that God sees? ~Dad

Led Astray, Proverbs 20:1

Led Astray

Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise.

This is such a trap for church people today. A church board member is a beer company salesman, church people getting together with non-Christians to drink and watch football together, you go to office parties and your "christian"friends are drinking and laughing it up. I've seen all of these and maybe you have too. It is sad when you own family begins drinking, but I ask you to stand strong and do not be led astray by drink nor you family and friends. Be wise, best to be filled with the Spirit than spirits. ~Dad

Open Mind, Proverbs 19:20

Open Mind

Proverbs 19:20 Listen to advise and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise.

You can talk to some people until you are blue in the face, and they will never listen. Don't be that person. Be willing to take advise. If someone thinks they have a better idea, hear them out. They just might. This is how you become wiser still. ~Dad

More than Tithes, Proverbs 19:17

Move Than Tithes

Proverbs 19:17 He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward him for what he has done.

Jesus says that we should give to him the 10% of all we receive from our toil. This is right to do, but it is not all we should do. Remember that what you do for the least of these, helping the poor and downtrodden and beyond, God takes note of, and he will reward you for what you have done. ~Dad

Better To Be Poor, Proverbs 19:1

Better To Be Poor

Proverbs 19:1 Better a poor man whose walk is blameless than a fool whose lips are perverse.

I've been told that if you want to do well in business, you have to host "socials". People love to come to drink and dance. Once they have their edge taken away by the alcohol, you'll be able to talk with them and become part of their group. I'd rather be poor. ~Dad

I've Got The Best, Proverbs 18:22

I've Got The Best

Proverbs 18:22 he who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.

God gives good things to his children. The best one of mine is your mother. The Lord has blest me greatly. May you be God's gift to a loving husband. ~Dad

Slackers Hurt Others, Proverbs 18:9

Slackers Hurt Others

Proverbs 18:9 One who is slack in his work is brother to one who destroys.

Slackers think they affect no one. They sit back and mind their own business, meanwhile those that need help are left to suffer. If you aren't helping, you are hindering others from becoming better. ~Dad

Listen and Learn, Proverbs 18:2

Listen And Learn

Proverbs 18:2 A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions.

Sometimes we may want to help someone, so we go to talk with them. But, instead of hearing them out to understand why they do what they do, we just give them advice upon advice. Be willing to listen and ask questions. They might even solve their own issues, and you might not need to say a thing. ~Dad

Cool Under Fire, Proverbs 17:27

Cool Under Fire

Proverbs 17:27 A man of knowledge uses words with restraint, and a man of understanding is even-tempered.

When you know you are right, you don't have to go on and on with many and heated words. Stay calm, state the facts, and don't let others stir your ire. ~Dad

Let It Go, Proverbs 17:14

Let It Go

Proverbs 17:14 Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam, so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.

Smelting The Heart, Proverbs 17:3

Smelting The Heart

Proverbs 17:3 The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests the heart.

When the Lord lets you go through the fires of life, remember that he is checking your integrity and refining you for heaven. Work with him by getting all the dross, the worldliness out of your life. It will make the process go easier. The more ingrained the impurities, the hotter the fire.  ~Dad

Lift the Learner, Proverbs 16:21

Lift The Learner

Proverbs 16:21 The wise in heart are called discerning, and pleasant words promote instruction.

Wise parents smile when they tell their children what to do. Grumpy ones wound their spirits and make their tasks miserable. Be pleasant and lift their spirits, then they will learn to enjoy the jobs you give them. ~Dad

Destruction Awaits, Proverbs 16:18

Destruction Awaits

Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty before a fall.

I never heard this verse before, but I like it... Ok, maybe I said it once or twice. Careful that you do not mistakenly give the glory to yourself or others when it belongs to God. He is the one who deserves credit for our successes. A job well done that brings satisfaction and gratitude can develop into pride of self. Gratitude for the accomplishments of your child or husband, can end with a haughty air about you. It is the Lord who rewards us for our hard work. Give him the glory for them. ~Dad

Make Plans, Proverbs 16:1

Make Plans

Pure Thoughts, Proverbs 15:16

Pure Thoughts

Proverbs 15:16 The Lord detest the thoughts of the wicked, but those of the pure are pleasing to him.

Over the years I have heard many people say you can look but you just can't touch. This is not scriptural! The Lord knows your thoughts and is pleased when they are pure. ~Dad

He's Looking Out For You, Proverbs 15:3

He's Looking Out For You

Proverbs 15:3 The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good.

Get To Work, Proverbs 14:23

Get To Work

Proverbs 14:23 All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.

It is good to dream and imagine what can be, but it that's all you do, it has been a waste of time. If you want a tiny home, build it. If you want to play the piano, practice. You can do about anything you put your mind to. So, get to work. You'll be amazed at what you will accomplish. ~Dad

Make Penance, Proverbs 14:9

Make Penance

Proverbs 14:9 Fools mock at making amends for sin, but good will is found among the upright.

Penance has gotten a bad rap. This is mostly because the Catholic church used it to pay for forgiveness of sins which is heresy. When you sin against someone you have the obligation to make it right... if you stole - pay it back with interest, if you broke something - replace it. Saying I'm sorry doesn't cut it. Go make things right. ~Dad

Think Then Act, Proverbs 14:8

Think, Then Act

Proverbs 14:8 The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways, but the folly of fools is deception.

If it feels good do it, I just do what comes naturally, Children are innocent, I just let them do what they want. These, and similar phrases, are shown as foolishness in this verse. Just because you have and urge doesn't make it good, in fact check to see if it is evil. Consider what you do, for the desires of the flesh can sink you deep into sin. ~Dad

Hope Brings Life, Proverbs 13:12

Hope Brings Life

Proverbs 13:12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.

Don't Get Upset, Proverbs 13:1

Don't Get Upset

Proverbs 13:1 A wise son heeds his fathers instruction, but a mocker does not listen to rebuke.

How do children, or adults for that matter, respond to be corrected? If they take it to heart and change, then they are wise. If they rant and rave, complain and moan, it shows there arrogance and pride. ~Dad

That Hurts, Proverbs 12:18

That Hurts

Proverbs 12:18 Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

It is amazing to me how easy it is to hurt someone with what you say. I am a true believer in the saying, Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me. In context, it is a powerful tool to keep one's emotional stability. Yet, to the perpetrator of divisive and cutting words, I say... Knock it off, don't you see how you are destroying people!? When sin controls someone's heart they use their words to tear others down. It happens in among friends and close relationships and in marriages. When there are disagreements, it is easy to respond in the most hurtful ways, piercing even those we love most... Remember, it hurts and you are not only destroying the relationship you are destroying the person. ~Dad

For those who like to joke and make sarcastic remarks, be careful. Watch the eyes of the other person. They may smile at your remarks, but when it hurts you'll see it in their eyes.

Animals Have Rights Too, Proverbs 12:10

Animals Have Right Too

Proverbs 12:10 A righteous man cares for the needs of his animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.

Animals have rights too. Before you get the idea that I joined PETA, let me assure you that man has dominion over animals and have permission by God to enjoy them as food and that isn't limited to beef, chicken, pork, or fish. But, that said, as caretakers we also treat them with kindness. When they are sick, we treat them, if it is blazing hot we give them shelter. When they are hungry we feed them.

Keep in mind they are not human, nor are they equal to humans, so they don't have the same rights as we do. They are not human, but we are. Therefore, righteous people care for their needs. ~Dad

The Tops, Proverbs 12;4

The Tops

Proverbs 12:4 A wife of noble character is her husbands crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.

"You are the Best!" That's what a husband wants to say about his wife. This past Sunday, a man in church said that I work mine too hard, said he shook her and they are rough. Then, he joked that I would wear her out and would have to trade her in for a new model. I told him that I couldn't find a better one. I'll keep with the one I have.

What kind of wife will you be? Will you be a Proverbs 31 wife, one he'll always want raise up high, so all can see? ~Dad

Don't Flaunt It, Proverbs 11:22

Don't Flaunt It

Proverbs 11:22 Like a gold ring in a pigs snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.

It has been said that if you got it, flaunt it. But God says otherwise. Ladies, cover the body God has given you. For, others are not to enjoy your fruits, only that special someone after you are married. ~Dad

Right Living Yields Righteousness, Proverbs 11:3

Right Living Yields Righteousness

Proverbs 11:3 The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.

Had a similar verse in Sunday school this morning from Leviticus, 18:5, talking about obeying God's decrees - the man who obeys them will live by them. To be enabled to walk as Christ, you will need to follow his path. Don't walk your own way and wonder why you have a problem following his. You got to be good to be good. ~Dad

Proverbs 10:27 The fear of the Lord adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short.

Many in the church think that when someone dies that it is God's appointed time. Here we see that you can add years to your life by being wise or shorten your life by living foolish. It's your choice. ~Dad

You Talk Too Much

Proverbs 10:19 When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise.

I have found this true, so don't be the person who always talks and talks. You will end up saying things you wish you never said. This is especially true when among friends. Just learn to shut your mouth. ~Dad

Source of Joy, Proverbs 10:1

Source of Joy

Folly Lies, Proverbs 9:16-18

Folly Lies

Proverbs 9:16-18 "Let all who are simple come in here!" she says to those who lack judgement. "Stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret is delicious!" But little do they know the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of the grave.

The problem with sin... it looks good. Satan, the father of lies, trick us into believing that what we are doing is good. He blinds us to the truth, and we see no reason why what we want to do is wrong. Conservative prudes say "No, it will harm your spiritual walk," but we know they are just old fools, but are they? ~Dad

Smooth Talking, Proverbs 7:21

Smooth Talking

Proverbs 7:21 With persuasive words she led him astray; she seduced him with her smooth talk.

Young ladies use their eyes to captivate. They can smooth-talk a young man, or older one for that matter, into doing things he never intended. And when they find a simple minded one, they can seduce them into doing anything. Be careful how you lead them on. You don't want to regret where you have led them.

~Dad

He Lacked Judgement, Proverbs 7:7

He Lacked Judgement

Proverbs 7:7 I saw among the simple, I noticed among the young men, a youth who lacked judgement.

Renewed Committment

Renewed Commitment

Miss A and Ms K. How have things been spiritually.
You know I haven't done too well so far this year, and that's no understatement. One post since January 1st and that one on the 3rd. Super busy the first 3 weeks of the year, and then I never got into the swing, and here it is March already. So, here is my plan to catch up. I'll admit it is wimpy but here it is: One proverb per post little to no explanation and three a day through March. Not the best but if you concentrate on the truth of the proverb you will grow by it.

Love you both,
~Dad
