Ought to Teach

Hebrews 5:12 In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again. You need milk not solid food.

The writer here is saying that Christians need to grow up. It is right to teach Christians to follow what is written in the word, these things are right to do; the Bible says don't do this but do this. As we mature we continue to follow the Word, but we move past the basic Thou Shall Nots and move into deeper waters. Then we are enabled to teach others. Sadly, most Christians never get there.

K and A, you both teach children now, when will you be ready to teach adults? Have you grown up in your faith? Is your relationship with the Spirit deep enough to lead an exegetical discussion of a passage of Scripture (1Cor. 2:10)?

The closer to God you become, the further you will be from the draw of the world and the more you will mature. Allow the Spirit to work in your life to deepen your faith enabling you to live in righteousness. Then you will be prepared to teach the deeper truths to help others mature.
