They Listened, Luke 11:29 - 32

They Listened

Luke 11:32 The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgement with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now one greater than Jonah are here.

Ninehev was wicked and God had enough. Jonah was sent to the city to condemn it to the Lord's destruction. They were so taken back that the repented, fasted and prayed to the Lord to relent. He did so.

Jesus declared that Nineveh was better than Israel. The leaders wanted Jesus to perform a sign ( I surmise) which show he was a prophet. But Jesus refused except the sign of Jonah... repent or be destroyed.

It has always interested me that evil people can see destruction coming but those in the church have no fear of God. I believe this lack of fear comes from the teaching that "God doesn't look at our sin when he sees us, rather he see the purity of Jesus". Jesus' blood certainly is pure, but it doesn't merely cover our sins, it changes who we are... If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation... (2Cor 5:17). To become this new creation, we must repent for destruction surely come.

A and K, Jesus said a wicked generation seek miracles. He wants you to take him at his word. You don't need special signs and wonders. Jesus calls us to many things. He says to love the Lord with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself, saying that was what the Law was all about (Mt 22:40, Lev 19). Daughters, when your life doesn't align with the Word, repent, then he will see and forgive and you shall live!
