Psalm 97:12

November 29, 2015

Psalm 97:12... Rejoice in the Lord, you who are righteous; and praise his holy name...

Make music to the Lord, for he is good. (Ps 135:3) He is worthy of praise for he is righteous. God is above all and there is none beside him. (I Sam 2:2) The people all nations will one day bow down to him. (Ps 72:11, Ro 14:11)

In today's churches all people want to praise the Lord. In many churches, they wave their hand and jump around and say wonderful word of God's greatness. Yet there has never been a change of heart - "Egypt" has never left them although, but for that moment, they are out of "Egypt". Waving hands in honor of God doesn't necessarily mean they are honoring God. Many times this actually brings condemnation on them. Many of today's leaders are part this group. They do not believe you can be holy and that anyone is free to praise god no matter how sinful they are. As I wrote a few days ago, David said that we need to have clean hands and a pure heart to approach God. Certainly I am not speaking of reaching out for salvation. He loves when we reach out for that purpose. I am talking about when we have know sin in our life and praise God anyway. This is mockery! It is warned about in scripture that those who act that way are in danger of eternal suffering. (Jude) In Numbers 16 it talks about Korah's rebellion. The main complaint conveyed this message... "The whole community is holy" we can be used by God just as much as you, Moses. The next day he and his followers (Leaders of the Hebrews) were torched by fire from the Lord - who is able to come before the Lord? Those that present themselves with pure hands and a clean heart.

A & K don't think that just because you are in church or been baptized or once said a sinners prayer that you are good to go. You must keep you "garments white"; your lives clean from sin doing those things that God requires and not doing the things he abhors. Then you can "climb the holy hill" make supplication to the Father. Daughters, this is not taught today in most churches. Read Jude. It helps us understand how serious sin is. Clean up your lives by washing away the stain of sin in the blood of the Lamb so your garments may be as white as snow, then go rejoice in him and praise his holy name!

Psalm 96:8

November 28, 2015

Psalm 96:8... Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering and come into his courts...

God is worthy of honor. For his is the "glory, the power, and the glory, Amen." (Mat 6:13, some manuscripts) He is the Creator. He made a covenant between God and man which exceed all other agreements found. He promises to take care of his people if the but honor and love him. (Lev 26:3& 3) He says that real love is obedience to his statutes. (Jn 14:15) One of his statues is the tithe. His people will bring in $10% of all they have and honor him by joyfully giving part of what he has given them. (Lev 27:30,  Mal 3:10). But even more, They gave offerings to the Lord above what was required, because they loved the Lord and wanted honored him more by showing their thanks and appreciation. (II Cor 9:7).

Growing up I heard that you were not required to give to the Lord a specific amount of money . It was always taught that a tithe is by definition is 10%, but There were no scriptures that specified we must give a certain amount. I believed that until I read for myself. In the Gospels there is a reference to Jesus telling the pharisees they were to continue giving a tenth of there things but were but to withhold the love of God for others. (Lk 11:42 and Mat also) The scripture is very specific in saying that we cannot out give God, (Mal 3:10) and that we are to give with an open and cheerful heart. (II Cor 9:7)

Daughters, God loves a cheerful giver. If you are to give glory to God... which is credit from whom all good things come, then you must give to him an offering of thanks. This is above and beyond the tithe though. Way too many Christians today suffer from the teaching that say determine in your heart what to give but leave out the understanding of a minimum amount. This is 10% of your gross, not what is left over. The the people of Israel gave their 10% of crop, they did not calculate in how much loss they would be incurring in shipping and handling and storage! They gave off the top. Consider this. there is a warning in the old testament that we suffer loss if we do not bring the tithe into the his storehouse. But conversely, there is a blessing which we cannot not handle if we respect and honor him with what he has given us. Remember it all belongs to him, we are only servants, or slaves to the master... funny thing, he allows us to keep 90% of his money to use to honor him in other ways. Now there a true blessing!

Song: "He Will Fill Your Heart to Overflowing"
Lyrics:

Full Text

1 Are you looking for the fullness
of the blessing of the lord
In your heart and life today?
Claim the promise of your Father,
come according to His word,
in the blessed old time way.
Chorus:
He will fill your heart today to overflowing,
As the Lord commandeth you,
"Bring your vessels, not a few;"
He will fill your heart today to overflowing
With the Holy Ghost and pow'r.
2 Bring your empty earthen vessels,
clean thro' Jesus' precious blood,
Come, ye needy, one and all;
And in human consecration
wait before the throne of God,
'Till the Holy Ghost shall fall. (Chorus)
3 Like the cruse of oil unfailing
is His grace forevermore,
And His love unchanging still;
And according to His promise
with the Holy Ghost and pow'r,
He will ev'ry vessel fill. (Chorus)

Psalm 95:1

November 27, 2015

Psalm 95:1... Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation...

Christ is the Rock on which to build. He is the foundation, the cornerstone and the capstone. The foundation is what holds the stability. It is the sure footing which does not shift. A cornerstone is the one used to define the building, It is the beginning and sets the location, angle and elevation of the building. It determines how the building is to be laid out. And the capstone is the last part of the building. The top of the wall. It ties together all that has been assembled. It keeps all from coming apart.

"On Christ the Solid Rock I stand, All other ground is sinking sand." This familiar hymn was written to reinforce the truth that Jesus is the one our faith needs to be grounded in. He is our Rock and our Salvation. (Ps 62:6) We need not fear the turmoil and storms of life. When the winds howl and the torrents swirl about, we can feel safe in his arms. In fact, we need not cower in the corner of his love. No, we can stand tall with him. Like Peter walking on the water, when we focus on him and keep our eye on what is worthy, Jesus will keep us from sinking in the quagmire of life.

A and K, look around you... is anyone watching?... make a fist with both hands. Go ahead they're not watching. Now, put one on top of the other. Take the one off of the bottom and put it on the top and then do it again with the other one... While doing this sing these words.. "The wise man built his house upon the rock.... You finish the rest. Daughter, like it says in verse 3 of the song - "so build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ"... and you will find that through all the turmoil that comes your way, you will be able to remain standing.

Psalm 94:22

November 26, 2015

Psalm 94:22... But the Lord has become my fortress, and my God, the rock in whom I take refuge...

But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. (Ps 59:16) Today's verse speaks of the confidence that can be placed in the Lord. He is not a God a who stands idly by. He cares about what is happening. He is close and sees what is going on. It matters not where we are for he is there. (Am I only a God nearby? Jer 23:23)

We can rest assured that where ever we go God is there. In times of trouble, and Jesus said troubles will come (Jn 16:33), we can run to the Lord for his protection and strength. He is active in our lives. "He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bare." (1 Cor 10:13) In Psalms 33:13-15 it tells us that God is watching from above and sees us and works in our lives and considers all we do. Romans 8:28 says all thing turn out for the good if we love him and do his will. We, then, can take refuge in him and be confident that we will protect us.

K and A, will you trust him? Where do you run when times get tough? Run to the Lord. he will help you and bring you peace. He can be your place of refuge where you can find protection from troubles and all that comes against you. There you will find peace. But you ask, what does it mean to run to the Lord? Run to the Lord in prayer. There is where you will find that he will draw close to you and peace will flood your soul. Read Philippians 4:4-7... Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. This is what you need. Do it all the time then when troubles come they won't seem near as overwhelming. God is there for you girls. No matter where you are, he is there. His arms of love and compassion are there to hold you close.

Psalm 93:5

November 25, 2015

Psalm 93:5... Your statues stand firm; your holiness adorns your house for endless days, O Lord...

"Be holy for I am holy." This is a statement repeated over and over throughout both the Old and New Testaments. God told the people of Israel to consecrate, or sanctify, themselves and to be holy for he is holy. (Lev 11:44) God does not change his mind like man (Nu 23:19) and his ways are firmly established. His plans will not be thwarted. He is God forever.

If we are to come before a holy god, and there is only one God, what makes it possible? David answers this question in Psalm 24:3-4, "Who may stand in the holy place, he who has clean hands and a pure heart." He told that to the Hebrew people not to Christians. They had no inner ability to remain holy. They could not have a truly clean heart, yet God expected them to live that way. Before Christ, God provided a way for man to be purified of past sins. Today we can be purified in heart and mind and soul where the past is gone and a new beginning brings clean hands and clean hearts. We are purified from all unrighteousness. (1 Jn 1:9).

A, do you have issues with hidden sin? I would see them if you did. I cannot see your heart, but God can. K, can you ascend the hill of the Lord? Is your heart pure? Is what you do in private keeping your hands clean? God sees all. Ladies, man judges by what they see. God sees the heart. You need to please both. Live in such a way that people around you believe you are holy. Just because you aren't sinning, if people think you are then it is wrong to do. I was once told I was too close physically to someone and I was a poor example. I thought they were crazy, I new nothing wrong was going on, but I altered my actions because I surely didn't want others to think I was and so malign God's character. Be holy for He is holy, daughters. I want you to stand before the Lord in confidence!

Psalm 92:1

November 24, 2015

Psalm 92:1... It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High...

There are many verses in Psalms that encourage making music to the Lord. Some are commands but others tell of the benefit of doing so. The thought of this verse continues into the next verse as it says to "proclaim his love in the morning and his faithfulness at night." These are not specific in their chronological timing, rather they are specific in detail of honoring his character. God is loving and faithful and making it known is necessary from morning to night. It reinforces the thoughts of Deuteronomy 11:19 as it tell us there to tell of God's goodness no matter what we are doing; "as we walk along the road."

God has given each of talents. Some of these we have from birth and others are developed through encouragement (or pressure) from parents and others, and some gifts are given by the Spirit after we become Christians and are to be used to glorify God and increase his kingdom. But many of us squander our talents and fail to "make music to his name." Others of us squelch the talent and suppress the effects it could have had for God. "It is good to praise the Lord" with the talents he has given us. But more than good, it is necessary that we do so. In the parable of the talents (Mat 25:14 -30) we told that those who do not use what God had given them will lose it, and they will spend eternity in a fiery place, that's scary.

K and A, do you have talents that you are failing to use for God? Do you squander that talent and so waste any effect that it could have for his kingdom. Do you make excuses of why you do not honor him with those talents and by that you squelch any effect it would produce in others causing them to miss the kingdom. Remember that God will call you into account! (Mat 25:31-46) So let me encourage you both. Use what God has given you. Take what others have built into you, singing or playing, and use it to grow his kingdom. The one servant in the parable that didn't was lost forever, but the others that did were rewarded with eternal life and even more. They were blessed by God. "It is good to praise the Lord" so honor him today.

Psalm 91:14

November 23, 2015

Psalm 91:14... "Because he loves me," says the Lord, "I will rescue you him, I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name...

In 1 John 4:19 it says that we love, because he first loved us. It would be impossible to love without God. This is so. because God is love. To have no God is to have no love. Do not confuse this to mean non-Christians can't love. The can and do. This is because there is a God and we have the ca[pacity to love but those who do not know him cannot not love fully.

So we have a capacity to love, not just each other but we can love God. If we do this verse says that God will protect us and rescue us. But we must acknowledge him. That is one of the ways we show that we love him. But consider the opposite, if we do not confess him - then we do not love him and it can also be said that he will not rescue us. This is true not only for the bad things which come into our lives, but also we lose his protective arm  which upholds us.

K and A, It says in Romans 10:9 that we must confess with our moths that Jesus is Lord. for if we do not then we cannot be saved. That is a real rescue - saved from our sin. Our verse for today says that we must acknowledge him. This is true in many areas. With do this by mouth, by the things we say and the things we do. Young ladies, in this life you will have trouble and you will want God's protection to get you through it. You can trust him for he says he will save you out of your trouble if you but show others you love him.

Psalm 90:12

November 22, 2015

Psalm 90:12...Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom...

There are many authors in Psalms. Most think David wrote all of them, Some know that there are a number of different ones but few know that Moses wrote one, maybe two. This Psalm was written by him as a prayer to God, Moses had many rough days and struggled with a people who kept reaching back. They had left Egypt, but Egypt never left their hearts. God was very angry with them for being so stubborn and refusing to trust him. Moses was caught in the middle many times. Here he is calling out to God and pleads for his patients and help with the people he is trying to lead. If only the people of Israel would learn wisdom, they would surely turn to him.

I wonder what God thinks of us. Moses was an intermediary between Israel and God. Although we can talk directly to God, Jesus is our mediator. He pleads for us when we are obstinate, when we are to blind to see our own sin. We need to seek wisdom to lead us out of our foolishness. A good point of the service today at church took us to 1 Cor 10:11. This verse shows us that the things that happened to the people of Israel are to be examples to us. If we follow their ways we will fall out of God's favor and will be destroyed like they were. (vs 10) But he gives us a way out. (vs 13) He won't give us more that we can handle.

Daughters, I didn't talk about the first part of this verse yet. Here is my exegesis... when you number your days you will consider all facets of your life. Like doing an audit, you will find any inconsistencies that exist and the wisdom you gain will cause you to clan up your life, like a reconciling of a check book. You can;t afford to have any mistakes when it comes to the only book that counts, The Book of Life. So A and K, look at your life and consider what you do. The wisdom you gain will keep your name from being blotted out. (Ex 32:32 & 33, Ps 69:28, Rev 3:5 - good verse talking about being blotted out of the Book of Life). One last thing... if you think you are standing tall and you have no sin or improper actions that lead to sin... take heed lest you fall! (1 Cor 10:12) Girls, be one who is always considering the results of what you do, especially  things the world does. when you do you will become wise and solidify your spot in the book.

Psalm 89:13

November 21, 2015

Psalm 89:13... Your arm is endued with power; your hand is strong, your right hand exalted...

Is there anyone greater than God? He created all things, and then sat back and declared it was good, very good. (Ge 1:31). He gathered all the needed animals for Noah to take into the ark, then he broke open the heavens and caused it to rain for 40 days and nights until the whole earth was renewed from the evil that had developed. (Ge 6:23) Take Sodom and Gomorrah, it was destroyed by power from the heavens. God rained down burning sulfur from the sky and burned up the valley and destroyed the wickedness. (Ge 19:23-29) And he commands the angles, even the angle of death. He called him out to kill all the first born of Egypt in a night. Wailing was heard over the whole country, except in (Ge 12:29 & 30)

In verse 6 of today's psalm, it asks the rhetorical question, who is like the Lord among the heavenly beings? Of course, the answer is no one. If we know that is true, why do we then not turn to him in our times of need or despair? Why do we moan and fret instead of relaxing in his arms of comfort and care? How foolish we can be as his children. Many of us go to the world to find answers. We google a thought, we escape on Pintrest or Instagram to forget our problems. Facebook friends become our harbingers of peace and contentment. How foolish to turn to the pleasures of the world when there is no one as great as the Lord, no one as wise! If we sould but come to him we would find that this life is a cake walk full of prizes we keep winning.

K and A, "seek the Lord and he will be found, call on him while he is near." (Is 55:6) God is waiting to give you a hand. He wants you to come to him for life's answers. His spirit will be the sagacious harbinger of all that is needed. If you but run to him instead of running to the world. The world's untruths will bind you, where God's wisdom will free you. His arm is strong and he will lift you above any problem.

Psalm 88:13

November 20, 2015

Psalm 88:13... But I cry to you for help, O Lord; In the morning my prayer comes before you...

Jesus often went to a solitary place to pray. A few of those times it is recorded that he prayed all night long. (Lk 6:9), Other times he got up early and prayed. (Mk 1:35) Prayer was key part of the instructions of the apostles. In Colossians 4:2, Paul tells us to devote ourselves to prayer. He tells us to pray continually (1 Th 5:17) giving thanks in all things. James says to pray for one another. (Js 5:16) And, David in the psalms speaks much about praying to God through out the Psalms.

In this psalm the writer never finds resolve. We find it plenty of times in other scripture but here Heman never find the answers he is searching for... but he continues to pray! Selah (think about it) ......................... It is easy to give up when it seems like no one understands. When times get tough, the tough turn to God. It would be wrong to turn away then, but many do. THey figure God is absent because they have no answer to their prayer. But look what Heman did... he continues to petition God and doesn't give up. Is he still sad and get see the way out from his problems? Yes, but he doesn't quit. He knows that it is only God who can bring relief from his dilemma, so he continues knowing God will in his time answer.

A and K, do you have any issues where you are finding no resolve. Turn to God not the world. He will take care of your situation, and quickly. That means when it is the right time it will be done with no delay. Wait for him... you may need to grow some before he acts. Seek his face and never give up praying... pray without ceasing. Be persistent like the widow asking for justice (Lk 18:1-8), and believe in your heart that God will do what he says - have faith in him. If you are faithful and obedient to him you will find the answer you are looking for and you will find the abundant joy he promises, (Jn 10:14b), the peace that surpasses all understanding. (Ph 4:7)

Psalm 87:7

November 19, 2015

Psalm 87:7... As they make music they will sing, "All my fountains are in you."...

"Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord," (Eph 5:19) is a command of Paul to the Ephesians. He was instructing them on their need to be careful in how they live (vs 15). In verse 11 he says to have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness. He was showing them how important it was to make good use of their time (vs 13), use it all for the Lord not for your own satisfaction and pleasure. He said it not even good to discuss what the wicked do in secret. (vs 12). The Ephesians were to drink and party like the wicked (vs 18) but were to sing and make music to the Lord in their heart and share them with other believers. (vs 19)

Today the church pushes the ways of the world which are altered by placing Christ into what it does. This is very dangerous. We have brought the ways of the world into the light. What used to go on in the dimly lit bars and clubs are done in the broad daylight. And now they are done in the church as well. There was a day that we never ate in the church, the sanctuary normally. Today, we are encouraged to buy food & coffee and take it into the sanctuary. We party in the church. We dance in the church. People swear in the church and even the preacher swear during his sermon. We dress like the world, talk like the world and act like the world. Unfortunately, too many churches are the world in disguise.

Oh young ladies, It saddens my heart to know where our churches are headed. They have led your generation away from all that was considered sacred. Many of my generation laughed at the ways of the past. Your grandfather saw them perform plays at church general conference poking fun at past generations: their rules, their dress. Often the practices of the church were still in the bylaws of the church. The "left" in America does the same thing to the principles we always held dear: things like Right to life, at one time No Sunday sales, Bible reading in the schools, Sexual fidelity, No homosexuality, Marriage between one man and one woman. No dancing was in both of our denominations. But anything goes today... The question is, what will you choose... will you choose to follow the ways world or to follow the way of Christ? Choose life! When you do, you will find true joy. It won't be something you do to feel good. It will be something inside of you that comes out of you like a fountain. Flee the "deeds of darkness" which seeks external pleasures, rather fill yourself with purity and holiness so the joy of the Lord bubbles out from your soul.

Psalm 86:1

November 18, 2015

Psalm 86:1... Hear , O Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy...

When man was created, he was naked and owned nothing. All he had was provided by God. The garden he lived in was planted by God. His companions - the animals were brought to him and he named them. His food was provided for and he lacked nothing, except a suitable helper. And God provided that as well. From his rib God created Eve and man was complete. All he had was given to him. He owned nothing, yet he was rich! But then eve wanted to be like God and Adam agreed. They had to have one more thing; so they thought? - the knowledge of good and evil. Now, even though they had more, they became poor! (Gen 2:4 thru ch 3)

How can one be so rich in things and still be poor? When you "caste but a glance at riches, they are gone." (Pr 23:5) Being rich in material things is not worth much. Being rich in spiritual things is everything. We must keep focused on the priorities of life. Most of the world seek pleasure to escape from the drag of working to be financially set. That is true no matter what social status rung we are on. From the inner city low-life to the highfalutin Hollywood types, people everywhere seek out things that will bring them pleasure. But real joy comes as a result of what we have done for God and from meeting with God. When we caste but a glance at Christ, he draws near to us and we are made rich with all his bountiful blessings. When we seek the pleasures of the world, they give a temporary lift, but soon the emptiness sets back in and we seek a more extreme thrill as we again try to fill the void.

Daughters, what will you seek? Will you seek to live a life that glorifies God in what you think, say, listen to, watch and do? Consider how poor you actually are. Not financially, possessions bring nothing that last. If you must escape life by involving yourself in what the world finds fun, then you are poor and needy. here is what the next verses say, 2 - Guard my life, 3 - Have mercy on me, 4 - Bring joy, 6 - Hear my cry, 11 - Teach me your way, Give me an undivided heart, 16 - Turn to me, Grant your strength, 17 - Give me a sign. K & A, what do you do when things seem to fall apart? Do you give up? Do you run to the internet for answers? Do you run to the world to escape reality? Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness, and all you truly need to be rich will be given you and you will find true joy!

Psalm 85:2

November 17, 2015

Psalm 85:2... You forgave the iniquity of your people and covered all their sins...

What does God think about the sins of his people? Is he bothered by sin? Would he be satisfied with a christian sinning and saying, "everyone sins, you have your sin I have mine." "We all sin in thought word and deed everyday, every moment." NO! God is not happy when we sin, nor does he want us to remain in it. "Confess you sins one to another, so you may be healed.' (James 5:16)

God sent his messenger to David to set him straight. In  2 Samuel 12, Nathan confronts the King to his face and declares he is evil one. David recognizes his sins, is cut to the heart, and makes no excuse for it. He admits he sinned and mourns his actions against man and God. God want you to settle the matter as quickly as you see your sin. He says in Isaiah 1:18...  "Come now, let us settle the matter," says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. He want to purify you and make things right again. (1 Jn 1:9)

A and K, It is true we are still capable of sinning as Christians. Sad as it is, today most are satisfied doing so. But we are not called to everlasting failure but to purity and righteousness. God said, "Be ye holy as I am holy." This theme is repeated many times through out scripture. Leviticus and Exodus and 1 Pet 1:16 to name a few. God want you to live lives pleasing to him and these types lives are ones that separate you from all that hinders, so throw all that stuff to the side (Hebrew 12:1) and live such good lives no one can speak ill of you. Near the end of this psalm it talks about things that go together... Love and faithfulness, and Righteousness and peace. Think about these. How are you developing them in your life. Allow God to make your life whiter as snow and you will find the holiness you seek.

Psalm 84:10

November 16, 2015

Psalm 84:10... Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a door keeper in the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of the wicked...

I rejoiced with those who said to me, "Let us go to the house of the LORD." (Ps 122:1) He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read. (Lk 4:16) It was Jesus' habit to go to the house of the Lord. He did not go to the Temple every week but each Sabbath he went to the local Church or synagogue. David speak often about his desire to be in the house of the Lord. Not only was it their custom but they enjoyed going.

I've heard it said many times, I suppose you have as well. I'm bored. I don't like doing that, it's boring. When my students said that I told them that boring is an attitude. They were bored because they didn't like doing it; they had no desire to do it. And, so it is with church. Many people do not like being there. Sure there are times that it is done poorly or the setting seems unworkable. The real reason is that they are bored. They have yet to find its purpose. There hearts and their money is not in the right place. When you gamble in bingo... you have to be enthused. Your money is on the line. If you aren't you won't last long... "B3" Wow! exciting. The excitement is in the results and participation, in the assurance you might succeed. The second part of today's verse deals with this.

What excites you! Is it the ways of the world? Today the church people have a hard time determining the difference. There was once clear cut differences but today's leaders (those from the hippie generation, my generation, the baby boomers) have brought the worlds ways into the church. They joined the world's ways with Jesus to make them all better. This has confused today's Christ followers. Now the teaching is that if you feel okay about it and the "spirit" doesn't tell you it is wrong then it is okay, just give the glory to God. Oh, this is so dangerous! This is hurting the church. It is affecting the lives of the next generation and the generations to come. Miriam and Aaron tried this. In Numbers 12 we can read that they said we all can all hear God's voice, we don't need you Moses. In the NT we are given this authority but it must be applied in wisdom. Satan has come and distorted the concept that we are all high priests. He said we don't need others to tell us what to do. You can decide on your own. That untruth has put to where we are today.

A and K, I must wrap this up... Suffice it to say... Be enthralled about the things of God. Don't not mix Jesus with the world's ways and think that their ways are now godly. You know what I think many of them are. I'll save that for another time. If it is about pleasure and self it is the world. I hope you will say like the sons on Korah in this psalm... I'd rather have a low position in the house of God than to be some star in the world. One day with Jesus is better than a boat load of fun!

Psalm 83:18

November 15, 2015

Psalm 83:18... Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD, -- That you alone are the Most High over all the earth...

King of Kings and Lord of Lords, that is how God is described. It is evident that God is the supreme being that control all. And, he will reign forever and ever for his rule will not ever be thwarted. (1 Tim. 6:14 & 15, Rev. 19:16 & Job 42:2)

Turning to the one who is in control to carry out your plans of life is key to prevent senility. Living life may appears at time to be futile. We work to keep all our ducks in a row and not only does something come buy to shoot one of our ducks they shoot inline with the row killing many of our ducks. As life falls apart we wonder where God is in all of this. By the time we get to chapter 42 of Job, he realizes that life is truly out of our control. He knew that bad things happen to bad people because of their disobedience to God but he never knew that good people had to suffer while being righteous. It made no sense to him. But when he found this to be true he declared in verse 3 of chapter 42, that he was too finite to conceive what God was doing and that he would trust him to take him through the unfair parts of life for no one can thwart Go's purposes.

K and A, When life gets you down because you don't know which way to turn next, Turn To God. He will reveal himself to you and send his Spirit to comfort you and give you peace (Jn 14:26). Then as you are obedient to him and trust him for what lay ahead, he will show you that when all things seem impossible there is hope for with him all things are possible. (Mt 19:26). Trust him daughters. He will bring you through.

Psalm 82:1

November 14, 2015

Psalm 82:1... God presides in the great assembly; he gives judgments among the "gods"...

God is on his throne. He rules the universe. No one supersedes his authority or can thwart his decisions. In chapter 6 of Job 1 it speaks of how Satan met God on his throne to discuss what he had been doing. He had to present himself before God to give an accounting. God asked him, "So Satan, what have you been up to?" (paraphrased slightly) This is not the only place it speaks of God being on his throne.

2 Kings 22:19... Micaiah said, "Therefore, hear the word of the LORD. I saw the LORD sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing by Him on His right and on His left.

Isaiah 6:1... In the year of King Uzziah's death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple.

Daniel 7:9..."I kept looking Until thrones were set up, And the Ancient of Days took His seat; His vesture was like white snow And the hair of His head like pure wool His throne was ablaze with flames, Its wheels were a burning fire.

Matthew 5:34..."But I say to you, make no oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God,

Revelations 11:20...Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them.

Psalm 103:19..The LORD has established His throne in the heavens, And His sovereignty rules over all.

There is no doubt that God is in control. He is sitting on his throne and Jesus has gone to be at his right hand. Christians, all who overcome the temptations of the world) will be given the right to sit with him one day. (Rev 3:21)

Can we trust God? Does he really care about us? Will he protect and direct our lives? Is he holding Satan back so we aren't destroyed? Yes he is. He would take us under his wing if we would allow him to. (Mat. 23:37)

A and K, God wants to care for you. But you must be willing for him to allow him to. One of your the greatest responsibilities in respect to this is to be obedient to his commands (Jn 14:15) Think about it. God is on his throne for a reason. He is there to judge the verse for today says. When we accept Christ we don't get a ticket. We get the freedom to chose to do right and we get a person, the Holy Spirit, to help us live it. In the end all are separated and judged "according to what they have done, both good and bad" (Mat 25:32+,  Ro 2:6). i do not say this to cause you to be paralyzed in fear. No, I say it so the truth will be know! We can rest assured that he is for us and will bring us to the end. He wants to complete the work he has begun in you ladies. (Ph 1:6) So yield your will to him and he be confident that you are under his wing.

Psalm 81:11

November 13, 2015

Psalm 81:11... But my people would not listen to me; Israel would not submit to me...

Asaph is lamenting again. He continues to ask God for help to turn his people bless their nation again. He knows his nation failed God and that they were stubborn and not wanting to return to him. But that would be their only way back to success, the only way to find peace from their enemy. But they weren't willing!

Sounds like man. Why aren't we willing to please God by being obedient to his Word. As Christians we are called to be his children, to be obedient to him and to follow his decrees. We have it better than Israel, God expects us to follow his ways, just like he did Israel but we have it easier since he has given us the Holy Spirit to aid us. But like man always has been, we still give in to the world around us and are stubborn and follow our own devices (vs 12).

Ladies, this verse isn't very positive. Do not act like a stubborn child, not for me or for God. If you aren't living a way that is pleasing to God, don't be stubborn. Submit to him and yeild your ways so they become like his ways! If you do he will bless you like it says in vs 16... you will be fed hiney and you will be satisfied!

Psalm 80:19

November 13, 2015, written a day late. I was at Liberty University for the Ben Carson event and did not return home until 12:30 am.

Psalm 80:19... Restores us, O Lord God Almighty; make your face shine upon us, that we may be saved...

Asaph continues to plead with God to strengthen the nation of Israel. David reigned in a difficult time in Israel's history. He was a warrior and went to battle at times because that was the time of  year it was. (2 Sam 11:1) Nations fought against nations to increase their kingdoms and for Israel, it was no difference. After David had his sexual problems, problems arose. Battles were lost and family turmoil ensued. Even his kingdom was overthrown for a time and he had to flee the city. (2 Sam 15:14). But God restored the kingdom and reigned over God's people once again.

God is our supplier. He is our hope; our strength. He is our life! (Ps 33:20) We can count on Jesus being there when our life gets tough and we cannot see where it is going. He will restore us to the joy we once knew. He will give it to us in abundance. We must go to him and continue in our walk with him. we must not leave him when we need him the most.

Where is your life taking you. Will God supply for you? Can you trust him for your tomorrow? K and A, believe in your heart and stand on the truth that Jesus is for you and is working out all things for your good (Ro 8:28). Always be aware that Satan is fighting against you and when times get confusing he is there to lead yo to the world. That's why people drink. That is why they go party. Satan tells them that it will bring them peace and joy, but it leads to destruction! Flee the world and cling to Jesus. He brings true peace in times of trouble. Roman 8:31 says... "if God is for us who can stand against us?" No one! Many things are going through my mind, but I'm trying to say this... when life seems to fall apart and you don't know where to turn, move closer to God, especially his Word Through prayer, you will find resolve for your situation and he will restore your hope. His face will shine upon you and you will be saved from the setback you now perceive. When the going gets tough, the tough turn to Jesus for strength to carry on. Nothing is too big for him, for you!

Psalm 79:8

November 11, 2015

Psalm 79:8... Do not hold against us the sins of our fathers; may your mercy come quickly to meet us, for we are in desperate need...

Again Asaph ask God for his help. His country is in hardship and their enemies are coming up against them. He sees destruction and death. He pleads for the hand of God to intervene and to turn back the armies of the oppressors. But, Asaph doesn't miss the cause. He says in verse 9, "deliver us and forgive our sons for your sake." He recognizes that it is not the oppressors that causes them trouble,it is their own sin! Those who come against them are God's judgments against their sin.

We need to understand that God does not choose to destroy us. There are two main causes of troubles, those caused by Satan's desire to see man fall and disciplines allowed by God. Remember that just because you have trouble it doesn't mean you have sinned. But it is very important that we see there is a punishment for sin and these come to us and we may not see the hand of God's discipline. It is good and necessary for us to consider the possibility that God is not please with our actions. Many people like to blame others for their hardship and my generation was told by many  "experts" that your parents are the root cause of all your troubles; blame them. God says that we die for our own sins. He tell his children Israel this in Jeremiah and Ezekial. they like to quote a proverb... "The fathers have eaten sour grapes, And the children's teeth are set on edge." (Jr 31:29, Ez 18:2) Israel wanted to blame their forefathers for their hardship and God... no you suffer for your own sins!

K and A, Consider your trouble. What is its cause? Is is like Job, from no cause of your own? or is it like David whose children fought and tore at each other and even committing murder. This was an extension of his sin with Bathsheba. Don't think that sins have no consequences. Even after sins are forgiven they reap a harvest. Also, never blame your parent for you sin problem. The scripture specifically says that the sins of the fathers are carried to their children to the third and fourth generation but it also say that can be reversed so that you begin a heritage of righteousness. (Ez 18:19-24) The best way is to walk the walk of holy living, to please God by being obedient to him. This will produce a life that is full of joy and happiness.

Psalm 78:6

November 10, 2015

Psalm 78:6... so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn will tell their children...

A psalm of Asaph, this chapter covers a short synopsis of the problem Israel had in the desert. Asaph says how they must never forget the problems Israel had, and how rebellious they were. They must tell their children what God has done for them and what would happen if they forget to serve him. Asaph recalled how the people of Israel broke the covenant by not following his law and how God would correct them by sending hard times even to the point of death.

God had Moses tell the people ot Israel what would happen... They would forget him when things started going well. He said he would have to send pestilence to bring them back. And they did forget him and they set up other gods and broke the commands God gave to Moses. What did Moses and Asaph say that would be a deterrent to forgetting God? The telling of his wondrous deeds! Moses said... tell them when you get up, when you lie down, when you sit, and when you walk along the road. (Dt. 11:19) In other word, talk about the the things of the Lord all the time. Teach your children what God had done in your life and the lives of other now and in the past. Then they will know and their children after them and "they will in turn tell their children."

K and A, today's verse could be about the need to follow God and how if we forget him he will discipline us to bring us back and we could say all that happened to Israel as examples. But, I want to stress to you the need to tell the next generation the way to live for the Lord. My generation has failed in this area. We said to our parents... don't tell me what to do, so they didn't (I know why and it was sad) and then when we had children to tell we said let them make their own decisions and all will be found. But the sad thing is they don't. Very few people your age believe in the way their grandparents lived. It is like there is a different God that they serve. The Sabbath is forgotten. Holiness has no meaning. Fleeing carnality is laughed at. Honor and integrity is of the past. Lying and rebellion is common - we look good but just to please our authority. Then we go do what we want. I've tried to show you a different path than the world around you; even a different than what today's church takes. Heed the words of Asaph. Know that if we forsake the Law of God it has consequences. Is there forgiveness for a fallen christian? Thank the Lord there is, but he says it is like crucifying Jesus all over again. (He. 6:6) You don't want to cause Christ to suffer and to be disgraced before the world again? So live holy lives and in the future, tell your children the way to walk. Tell them of the great things the Lord has done for you and those before you so they will know the way to walk and then they too can pass it on. There is nothing so rewarding to see your child faithfully following the Lord!

Psalm 77:2

November 09, 2015

Psalm 77:22... When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands and my soul refused to be comforted...

Asaph thought about the troubles around him, and they were greater than he could handle. He looked back and remembered the good times of the past. He remembered when he would lie on his bed and sing songs through the night. But, his current situation was agony and trouble. He groaned and grew faint. He was distress and hardships overwhelmed him. (Ps 77)

Jesus warned us, "in this world you will have trouble."  (Jn 16:33) Who wants to hear that. Wouldn't you rather have Jesus say, "now that you follow me, all things will be good. No one will bother you. All your tests and trials will be easy. You got it made, because you are one of mine." But that isn't reality. Jesus didn't come for that reason. He came in the midst of trouble. He too had troubles. The people of his own town rejected him. (Mt 13:56 & 57). The Religious leaders not only opposed him but ultimately had him put to death. (Lk 22:2). Even his own family tired of him. (Jn 7:5).

so does this leave us without hope? No! We must remember the rest of Jesus' words. In end of verse 33 of John 16, Jesus says this, "But, take heart! For I have overcome the world." You see it is not right to wallow in the mud of self-pity. It is does no good to muse on the good times of the past and moan about the tough situation you are currently in. Look at what Asaph said: I stretched out untiring hands, I sought the Lord, I refused to be comforted." In other words. when Asaph looked and saw what was wrong, he took it to the Lord until he found an answer. He would never give in, never give up until God gave him satisfaction. Were his troubles real? Yes ma'am (misses), Did he ask for them to go away? He did that as well. What we dod not see him do it to moan and groan to others and have himself a big pity party. No, he sought the Lord until he was found (Is. 55:6) and allowed the Lord to handle the situation. Jesus said he had overcome the world. This infers that we too can overcome. In Revelation 12:11, it talks about the martyrs overcame by their blood and the word of their testimony.

A and K, You will overcome when you tirelessly seek the Lord for answers. That sounds tough to me. I'm not a hard worker and that sounds like work. But so what, when you need to get answers, you need to do what ever it takes. "Seek the Lord", daughters. "stretch out" before the Lord with "untiring hands." Pray until you get an answer. Remember what Jacob did? He would not leave go of the Lord until he found resolve. (Ge 32:22-31) Jesus tells us to do the same in the story of the persistent widow. (Lk 18:1-8) So, don't give up daughters. God will see you through as you cry out to him for help. He wants you to overcome and succeed!

Psalm 76:1

November 08, 2015

Psalm 76:1... In Judah, God is known; his name is great in Israel...

In Psalm 96:4, the author say "For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods." When the people of Israel feared God, they knew he was the best thing that they could ever have. Looking at their past, they could see how God had worked in their lives. Abram was chosen by God and told to leave his home country (Ge 12:1 & 2) and took him to Canaan where he made a covenant with him. Jacob was met by God and blessed him. Moses met God on Mt Sinai and received the Law for the people of Israel to follow and if they would do so he would be with them and protect them (Ge 31:18 +). Joshua met the angel of the Lord and God promised  to be with him and help him conquer the Promise Land (Josh. 1:1-9). During Solomon's time, God came and his presence filled the temple and they worshiped him (2 Chron 5:14).

God was know to Israel, and we should know him too. God continues to work among his people in in the world around them. When we read the scriptures revealed to us is the mind and heart of God. There, we see his character and his authority. We can be confident that he will be here for us as well. Through Jesus, we have become his children and that gives to the the assurance that we will be provided for and the confidence that he will never let us down. He is a great God and there is none like him (Jer 10:6). When ever we are hurting or sad or lonely, we can count on him to be there for us. For us, he has given his Spirit to live with us. Jesus may have returned to heaven, but he did not leave us alone as if we were orphans. No!. The Father sent the Holy Spirit to confer with our spirit, reassuring us that we are his and that he will give to us what we need to carry us through. (Jn 14:18, Ro 8:16).

K and A, Know that we serve a great God! There is none like him! His name is great among his people. The world may you foolish for living a separate life, different from those around you. THey will wonder why you don't participate in their fun. Pay no attention to Satan's wiles. He only tries to sidetrack you into a defeated and pointless life. Serve the Lord with gladness and worship him in joyful song, (Ps 100:2). Know that you are his and He is with you. Stand confidently before wickedness for he is a great God who is on your side.

Psalm 75:1

November 07, 2015

Psalm 75:1... We give thanks, O God, we give thanks, for your name is near; men tell of your wonderful deeds...

Gives thanks to the Lord and tell of his wonderful deeds (Ps 9:1) God is the supplier of all that is. From him our strength comes. He owns all and gives all. "The Lord gives and the Lord takes away, blessed be the name of the Lord," were the words of Job in Job 1:21. Job knew that the Lord was in control. Satan could not do his work without approval from the Lord. (Job 1:12)

Some nay-sayer of the gospel would say they would never serve such a cruel God, but, as Job found out, it is God's choice to bless. Also, there are plenty of other scriptures talking of God's wondrous acts, like today's verse so that is a topic for another day. When focusing the truth of this verse, we realize that there is no other God like the one we serve (some on wrote a song about that). In fact there is truly only one God. All the others are false! The one we serve has done miraculous things. All the nations in Israels day remembered the parting of the sea. They remembered the plagues of Egypt. And then there's his son Jesus. We still talk of his marvelous acts of kindness.

Young ladies, a few things I want you to think about.

First, Do you recognize the vast amount of things God has done for you? There are incredible amount of little things. Think mostly how he has chosen you to find salvation and how he keeps you from sinning. Oh there are things that yo have done I know nothing about, but still you can see how he has kept you from going off the deep end... and remember not because of who you are but because Christ his son made you one of his children!

Second, Do you thank him for his greatness and provisions for your health and strength. God is so generous. Many think they work for there money and status and never give back to God more than what he requires and most times not even as much as he requires. I am a witness to how quickly all can be taken away. Through my cancer scare and loss of job, It is easy to realize that truly I have so little control over my circumstances. (that's no excuse for being disobedient - what we do does make a difference (1 Jn 2:3)). like the verse says, be will to tell of his "wonderful deeds"?

Third, Do you trust God to know what he is doing/ Do not think you wont have troubles in this life. They come to everyone, good and bad alike. The difference is that we have someone that stands with us to make us strong. We can make it through each and every circumstance. God knew that Satan couldn't make Job turn away from trusting him. He knows what you can handle as well. Remember... "you can do all the things he has for you to do because he strengthens you! (Ph 4:13).

And fourth, Do you live like Christ who did wonderful things for others. I am attaching a link to a song. It reminds me of you K... I want you to work hard and to do well so you can excel at being the hands and feet of Jesus himself. That is what you are called for. When we serve others for Jesus there is such joy. I am trying to figure out ow to do that all over again. And some night (like last night) the people I work with make it so difficult. So, I separated myself from them for a bit and went and found others to be a blessing and the night ended up much better. A, God will make you a blessing too. Seek to find his place for you. I'm praying for the both of you each day. It is exciting to think of how God will use you both!

Psalm 74:16

November 06, 2015

Psalm 74:16... The day is yours, yours also the night; you established the sun and the moon...

God created the heavens and the earth (Ge 1:1) He made all thing and set all things in motion. He is the owner of all creatures; he is the owner of us. God also has everything under his control. Nothing happens that he has not foreseen (Ps 139). The day is his!

Some might say, if God sees all this then why do we have to suffer? Why don't just the wicked suffer and the good people flourish. In general good people flourish and the wicked suffer. We can read this in proverbs over and over again. We also see it through out Scripture in the history of Israel. When the forgot about God he allowed the enemy to overtake them. When they sought him they found him and they broke the chains of slavery and rose to new heights again. (Many good examples in Judges and also in the books of the kings.) But Satan is in charge of the earth with limited power and so sin yet rules on earth.

A and K, God owns the day and the night! You can feel confident that he will be with you to see you through. Stay focused on serving him in holiness and righteousness and you will be reassured as you see him work in your life. As you get older it is easy to look back and see how he has worked in your life. For now, speak to spiritual followers and they can show you how God has helped them over the years. As Grandpa has said many times... be faithful in what you already know to do and let God lead you to your next phase of your life. If he takes care of creation and owns it all. As his child, he will provide for all you need in strength and wisdom and spiritual stamina.

Psalm 73:2

November 05, 2015

Psalm 73:2... But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I nearly lost my foothold...

Correct understanding of this psalm is crucial. It begins by stating how God is for the pure in heart. He is good to them. Then we here a cry from the author, Asaph, that he almost slipped in his understanding of things when he considered the worth of following God. Does it make any sense to live a holy life he thought to himself. He saw the wicked succeeding and having all the fun. Pleasure was theirs, and he was caught in a miserable life serving God. (I took liberty in paraphrasing in my own words). But then he went to the sanctuary, he was David's leader of worship and music. There in the sanctuary he remembered the downfall that comes those who are wicked and said NO! I will not walk in their footsteps. I will remain faithful.

For many years now the church has been saying... We must be like them to win them, speaking of the sinful. Yet what they really meant was, I want to be like them,. They seem to have all the fun. This accelerated in my generation and is now running full speed ahead. There is very little difference between the world and today's "christian". If you attend a "club" you couldn't pick the christian out. He talks like them, drinks like them, and dances like them. But the sad part is, what are they doing there in the first place!

At our church's conference in 2000 all this became so clear to me. There the leaders of the church sanctioned worldly living. What is that you ask? Where we live like the world in action. Before that time it was known to exist in many attendees of the church, but that type of living was never sanctioned by the church leadership. Now it was given the go ahead. Soon "studies" were done and with in two years dancing was made "legal" in churches and at colleges. We were now free to be like them in music and dance and drinking. Nearly any old vice was considered defunct and fine for the church people to do and even in a church setting.

I cried and cried at that conference. What was happening. It set me in a tail spin I had to ground my faith or I would be pressured to go the same way. I resigned my 4 leadership position. I was rejected and even ask at one point why  I "stay here". why don't you leave.

But God was faithful. He gave me strength and hope for the future. In the wee hours of the mornings for five years he met me in my corner. Those remain the most special times of my life! During this time Anita Brechbill became a close friend. I desired to be close to God and he came many times in ways I can't express, precious ways that filled me with over-abundant joy. So much so I told God I couldn't take any more. (Looking back, that was dumb)

What I learned during that time was the need to remain faithful no matter what those around me were doing. If they choose to pollute the scriptures, I will remain true. I learned to worship despite who was preaching or teaching. God still used them for his purposes in my life. I did like Asaph did... I determined to follow him even if others seemed to have more fun or succeed. I said like Joshua... "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." (Josh 24:15)

Daughters, I love you both. You have different background and hope and dreams. But I pray and plead with God that you both will determine in your hearts to say... As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord! A, you haven't chosen a husband, not even a boyfriend. so you must choose wisely. Make wise choices before you "fall in love" because that "fall" has hurt many and their lives have been ruined. It has led many from the Way. K, you have chosen, and it crucial that you determine that R will set his life with the Lord or your "fall" will end up hurting you. Since you have only been a daughter in your older years, my ways may seem silly to you at times, but trust me as you did two years ago. Trust the wisdom of Anita. Stay separate from the worldly church and seek to be holy. I love you both. Make me a grateful Dad in the years to come, keep you feet from falling and know that serving God is worth it.
