Psalm 68:5

October 30, 2015

Psalm 68:5... A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.''

Where is God? - in his holy dwelling. What does God care about? - the fatherless and widow. IS this all God cares about? - No! Through the use of  the Scriptures we can see the character of God. "In the beginning" of Genesis, we see how detailed and powerful. He speaks into existence all things we know and will know. They work together perfectly and the world begins (Ge 1:31 & 2:3)Sin spoils man & creation, yet God is not silent nor aloof. He actively works to work out his plan. (Jer 29:11) Suffering now exists and he hurts when the innocent suffer and are taken advantage of.

As Christians, we are to be like Jesus. Jesus carries out the will of his father - he is like his father (Jn 5:19). We also must do the father's will (Mt 12:50. We not see from Psalms that God love the needy but we see it in the NT as well. What is a worthy religion? - "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world" (James 1:27).

A & K, we are to be like Christ and do the will of the father. There are many things we are to do. Carrying out his will is expansive (read the right word there). Much bigger than us but we must care about what he cares about. You can see this in the synopsis of the Law (God's Law by the way); Love the Lord with all your heart mind and strength and love your neighbor as yourself (Mk 12:31). Daughters, care about those around you. Do so for their spiritual as well as physical needs. God cares for them. You care for them also.
