Psalm 36:1... There is no fear of God before his eyes. For in his own eyes he flatters himself too much to detect or hate his sin...
There is a natural response to sin, it is guilt! Guilt is crucial. Adam and Eve experienced it when Adam partook of the fruit. (Ge 3:7) All of a sudden they saw their nakedness and had shame. We see this with Cane, Saul, David, and others. We all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. (Ro 3:20) We all have experienced the guilt or shame that comes from doing wrong.
But this verse talks about the man that doesn't feel shame when he sins. How could this be, since guilt is given by God to check (the hockey move - that check) our hearts? Our conscience can be over ridden by our own pride and self-righteousness. Grandpa's illustration of the Indian applies here. You must not ignore the triangle.
K and A, sometimes we grow up doing things or seeing others doing things that are wrong. We feel comfortable because the good people we know do them so it an okay thing to do. We have always done it so it has to be okay because I go to church all my life and I love Jesus. We can only use the past ways of life as a guide to what is right. All things must be judged according to the Word and principles of God.
Never be satisfied with your relationship with God. Continually seek holiness. Strive to be better than me, Jesus says that your holiness needs to exceed the scribes and the pharisees if you are going to enter heaven (Mt 5:20) I want all my children to exceed my devotion to Christ. K and A, both of you can do that and it will make me soooo happy! ~Dad
